” I joined the class 5 & 6 children on a school trip, and I was absolutely blown away by them.
They were so calm and confident, yet polite and engaged. They listened intently to [the teachers] wisdom, and had so much input themselves, it was more like an exchange of ideas.
All the children were happily offering up their thoughts, not scared to make a mistake or get something wrong. I realised that over the few hours I had spent with them, I had not heard a child mock or embarrass another. This was quite a shock to me, coming from a mainstream background myself, where mockery disguised as ‘banter’ was a main theme.
I realised these children weren’t scared to be themselves.
The environment they learn in is so healthy and respectful, they could fully drop into learning and contributing. Well done teacher Lucy, these children are a credit to you and Nant-y-Cwm. ”

Nant-y-Cwm has given my children a true love for learning and curiosity for life. They also have confidence in themselves and are willing to take on life.
I first visited the Kindergarten for a Christopher Day book launch. I walked into the building and decided, “When I have children, this is where they will go”. The feeling of the place, the turf roof, the circular building, the winding entrance, windows at a child’s height, all the nooks, wooden toys, the lighting. It made me feel cosy and magical – even the drive to school through the forest. It felt like a really ‘held’ place to have a childhood.
What I love about NyC is that it produces happy children. NyC has an enormous amount of care for each individual child, it’s in an amazing location and spending time outside in that location is special. It’s supportive of children’s development, the teachers are dedicated to allowing a child to be a child and become themselves.
And the school fairs! They are incredibly warm and wholesome, nourishing and very inclusive. There’s a real sense of connection in the community.
I’m really grateful for Nant y Cwm and everything it has given our family.’

Above all, we wanted our Adam to enjoy learning, be curious, be creative, challenge himself, have quality friendships, love life, be connected with nature, and respect his fellow humans, all of which Nant-y-Cwm delivered.
At 11, we decided that we didn’t want Adam to join mainstream secondary school, for many reasons; exam focus, pressure, technology like smart-phones and the one-size-fits-all approach. Instead we sent him to Nyc, which has been really beneficial to him.
When he left Nyc, he joined Fishguard secondary for his GCSE’s and he is doing really well. Some of the teachers have remarked that they really enjoy teaching ex-Steiner children.
We found NyC to have a great parent community, a wealth of people with real-life skills. NyC is in a beautiful location, which is a bonus – but not the only reason we came.

Nant-y-Cwm provided a strong grounding for lifelong learning and self discovery, through an education that supported [my son] in body, soul and spirit.
He gained the physical skills of making, drawing, coordination and movement, whilst understanding a clear context and relevance for subjects and their separation in later years.
Most importantly, he gained a love of learning and an active interest in the world around him which has given him foundation as he takes the next step.
