Nant-y-Cwm Steiner School
22-24th & 29-31st July 2026
Ages 6 – 14
This summer, we are delighted to offer a Steiner-inspired Forest School Holiday Club in our beautiful community woodland beside Nant-y-Cwm Steiner School.
This is a supervised outdoor holiday provision for children, offering a warm and nurturing rhythm of free play, creativity, practical activity, story, movement, rest and connection with nature. Children will be cared for by experienced facilitators in a safe woodland setting, with a range of optional forest-school-inspired activities available throughout the day.
Rooted in a Steiner-inspired approach, the holiday club is designed to support the whole child through rhythm, imagination, practical activity and time in nature. Our aim is to provide children with a joyful, grounding and memorable summer experience: one that is adventurous, socially rich, creative and full of wonder.

Children will have space to move, play, explore, make friends, take part in shared activities and enjoy the freedom of the woodland environment, away from screens and the busyness of everyday life.

Indicative Activities
The rhythm of each day will be shaped by the weather, the needs of the group, the age of the children and the life of the woodland. Facilitators will offer a range of activities, games and crafts for children to engage with as they wish, while also ensuring a safe, nurturing and enjoyable holiday setting.
Activities may include:
Circle time
A gentle sharing circle to help children settle, get to know one another and feel part of the group. This may include conversation games, songs, movement, simple reflection or other warm and age-appropriate ways of building confidence and connection.
Woodland orientation and nature connection
Games, site exploration, sensory activities, habitat discovery and opportunities to observe the natural world.
Children will be supported to become familiar with the woodland, understand safe boundaries, and enjoy direct experience of the trees, plants, weather, seasons and living environment around them.
Shelter building and teamwork
Children may have opportunities to take part in den and shelter building, simple knot work, problem-solving games and shared group challenges.
These activities encourage cooperation, imagination and practical confidence, while allowing children to enjoy the fun of working together outdoors.
Fire circle and practical outdoor activity
Where appropriate, children may take part in closely supervised fire-circle routines, gathering and preparing materials, safe fire-lighting activity, and simple campfire-based cooking or food preparation.
All such activities will be carefully managed by the team and adapted to the age, confidence and needs of the children present.
Seasonal awareness and natural materials
Children may explore seasonal plants, natural materials and the life of the woodland, with an emphasis on care, respect, observation and responsible engagement.
There may also be opportunities to use natural or foraged materials in simple cooking, craft or creative activities, depending on the season and what is safely available.
Nature crafts and handwork
Children may be offered creative activities using natural materials, with scope for weaving, simple woodwork, seasonal craft, making, modelling or other handwork-inspired activities.
The emphasis is on creativity, enjoyment, imagination and the pleasure of making with the hands.
Story, music and reflection
Shared storytelling, songs, quiet moments, music or closing reflections may form part of the daily rhythm.
These gentle elements help support group cohesion, imagination, calm and a sense of shared celebration.
Free play
Free play is an important part of the day.
Children will be given time and space to play, imagine, explore, build, rest and follow their own interests within the safe boundaries of the site, with appropriate supervision from the team.
The main essence of the holiday club is to offer children a beautiful woodland setting in which they can explore, play freely, make friends and let their imaginations blossom.
Suggested Daily Rhythm
A typical day may include:
- Welcome circle, morning movement and settling activity
- Group game
- Fire circle or practical morning activity
- Snack
- Activities on offer, free play or woodland exploration
- Lunch
- Afternoon activities, crafts, games or free play

Age Range and Differentiation
The holiday club is intended for children aged 6–14.
Activities will be adapted appropriately for different ages and stages. Younger children may experience the day through play, movement, story, imagination and simpler practical tasks. Older children may be offered greater responsibility, challenge and independence where suitable, particularly in areas such as shelter building, fire-circle routines, tool-based activity or group tasks.
The emphasis throughout is on safety, care, enjoyment, confidence and a positive shared experience.
