Nant-y-Cwm Steiner School is aware that one of our founders – Robert Wheeler – has recently admitted a total of 14 offences relating to two children aged between eight and thirteen between September 1980 and November 1989. These include nine charges of indecency against a child and five charges of indecent assault on a child. We welcome the news that he has been convicted for these crimes and will now be sentenced.
In addition to being a founder, Robert Wheeler was a trustee of Nant-y-Cwm Steiner School from 2003 until 2006. Thereafter he has, to the best of our knowledge, not had any links with the school. Whilst we cannot alter our school’s history, we will not allow this historical connection to in any way provide a platform to promote a man who has committed offences against children.
Nant-y-Cwm considers the safeguarding of the children within our care – and indeed within our school community – as being of the utmost importance, and we are deeply saddened to learn of these crimes. We recognise that members of the public who have been affected by these, as well as members of our school – both past and present – may want to contact us, and we welcome this unreservedly.
