School Development Manager
I have been working in education for 25 years. I started out in museum and community education and plucked up the courage to become a Secondary School teacher in East London when I was 24 years old. I quickly discovered that I had the disposition to do it and I realised the joy of learning and what it feels like to make a difference to the lives of young people, although at that time I was barely older than the A level students in some of my classes. Since those early days I have worked as a classroom teacher, teacher educator and senior school leader. For a time I worked as PGCE lecturer at UCL and more recently I joined the writing team for Edexccel Pearson, authoring GCSE text books. My passion has always been teacher development and I have been fortunate to mentor many teachers at different times in their careers as experienced professionals and many new entries to the teaching profession. My most recent role before joining Nant y Cwm was as Assistant Head Teacher in a large London comprehensive school. I am shortly starting a higher level qualification in Steiner/Waldorf Philosophy and Integrative Practice as my learning journey continues.
My family and I are moving to Pembrokeshire to start a new phase in our lives. Our children aged 4 and 7 will start as pupils at Nant y Cwm. When I am not working I love to read, cook, walk, watch foreign language films (with subtitles on), play the piano and ‘encourage’ my children to love history by visiting all types of history related sites of interest.
