This past week Nant-y-Cwm has been celebrating Michaelmas festival in both the Kindergarten and Main School.
One aspect of this festival is that of nurturing and shining our inner light, and of sharing our gifts with others. In Kindergarten we created a beautiful autumn display and asked for donations (thank you to all the many parents who brought food items, which will go to a local food bank this weekend). In the previous week we made lots and lots of apple and blackberry jam; this week, we took jars as gifts for neighbours living near our school and also sent a jar home with each Kindergarten child. Our tasty jam was also part of our delicious feast and we enjoyed the harvest loaves we had baked, as well as little harvest mice bread rolls.
Michaelmas is also a good time for planting bulbs, so this was a wonderful opportunity to give some love to Orchard Kindergarten’s new garden. We’re looking forward to seeing the results in the spring! The children had a great time planting the bulbs, wearing their golden capes that they had hand-dyed with turmeric and sewn in preparation for the festival. In the Main School the children had a Michaelmas assembly where they gathered to hear the Michaelmas story and sing songs to celebrate the festival. The school then enjoyed a feast outside to celebrate Michaelmas and the harvest.
