Form drawing is a preparation for writing letters and numbers. Form drawing is essentially movement come to rest in the form of straight lines and curves. Form drawing is for the development of fine motor skills, as a way to get ready for writing. Recognising, the action of the hand also teaches the brain.
In Steiner education, the letters are pictures which appeal to the child’s imagination. In the first grades of a Waldorf school the alphabet is formally introduced in an imaginative, pictorial way. Each letter of the alphabet is presented as a picture representing an element from a story the children are told.
The images are form and letter pictures on the chalk board of our class 1 and 2 during the Autumn term of 2020.
